Made From Scratch
Most candles start with a glass jar ordered from a supplier. Ours starts with a mould.
Most candles start with a glass jar ordered from a supplier. Ours starts with a mould.
Every Limewick candle is made from scratch. The cast-stone vessel is made here, by hand - cast, dried, sanded, finished, wicked, filled with coconut wax, cured, labelled, and boxed. One hand-poured candle at a time.
That is what made from scratch means. Not a label on someone else's container. A complete object, built from stone to scent.
-
Step 1
Cast the vessel
The stone vessel starts as a wet mix poured into a mould. This is not a generic container selected from a catalogue. The shape, weight, and feel of the vessel are decisions made here, at the bench. -
Step 2
Cure and dry
Once cast, each vessel is left for 2 weeks to cure and dry fully before any further work. Rushing this step weakens the stone. We do not rush it.
-
Step 3
Sand and finish
When dry, each vessel is sanded smooth. The base and exterior are finished by hand. This is where the surface quality is decided: not from a factory tool, but from the maker's hands.
-
Step 4
Prime, paint, and seal
Where the design requires it, vessels are primed, painted, or sealed by hand. Each finishing pass is applied by hand. No two candles are entirely identical.
-
Step 5
Wick
A cotton wick is centred and fixed into the finished vessel, ready for the pour. Centring matters. An off-centre wick will not burn evenly.
-
Step 6
Pour the wax
Coconut wax is melted, fragranced, and poured at the right temperature into the wicked vessel. The fragrance, pour temperature, and volume are checked each batch.
-
Step 7
Cure the candle
After pouring, the candle is left to cure. Coconut wax takes time to settle fully. This curing period improves scent throw and burn quality.
-
Step 8
Label and box
Once cured, the candle is labelled, fragrance name, safety information, and placed in its box. The box carries the full CLP and safety information. The vessel label is kept minimal.
-
Step 9
Refill or reuse
When the candle is finished, the vessel stays. Clean it out and use it as a planter, match holder, or desk object. Made to last longer than the candle inside it.
Not just a candle. A complete object.
The cast-stone vessel is cast. The coconut wax is poured. The box is packed. All by one pair of hands, in small batches.
That is what you are buying when you buy a Limewick candle: a handmade object made from scratch, not assembled from parts. A modern candle in a vessel designed to last.
